Feeding the Faithful and the Faithless (Afternoon)

Mark 7:31-8:21

discussion questions

  1. What attributes of Jesus do you see displayed throughout the four accounts in this week’s passage?

  2. Considering that Jesus already fed the five thousand (Mark 6:30-44),the disciples’ response in Mark 8:4 shows that they missed or forgot what Jesus taught them in the first miracle. Similarly, what are some things you maybe have “forgotten” or failed to grasp about Jesus?

  3. How have you seen Christ see your needs and provide for you recently?

  4. If Jesus sees and can care for our needs, how do you wrestle with seeing Christians in your life or around the world that seem to have needs left unmet?

  5. Read Hebrews 11:36-40 and Isaiah 30:18-20. How do these Scriptures speak into the previous question?

  6. A unifying theme of the four accounts in this week’s Mark passage is that Jesus is using the physical to point to what he is doing spiritually (e.g. Mark 8:15-18).  Are there any ways you can relate to being so concerned with the physical world that you miss what Jesus is trying to do in you spiritually?

  7. Is there anything that helps you to set your mind on things above and not just the physical world? (Consider looking at Colossians 3:1-3 if helpful.)
